🎨 How to color it

Color the big acorn’s cap chestnut brown, its nut warm tan, the oak leaves golden yellow and pumpkin orange, and the tiny acorns cocoa brown. Use chunky crayons for the big leaf spaces and acorn bodies; the crisscross cap lines can stay messy and still look playful. Try making the center acorn extra bright, like it is the boss of all the little acorns.

Every day, Bixby tucked his tiny gray pebble under his cap and rolled bump-bump down the oak path. It made a good clack sound. It smelled like rain and dirt.

Until one day, the pebble popped out—plink! Because of that, Bixby chased it under a floppy leaf. Because of THAT, three acorns rolled after him, bonk-bonk-bonk, shouting, “Mine? Mine?”

Finally, Bixby sat on the pebble like a chair. The others laughed and scooted close. Next time you spot the big acorn, can you guess where his clacky pebble is hiding?
