Beside the round wash pan, Pippa scraped one toe in the warm dust. Scritch, scritch. She wanted to make one brave poof all by herself. The dust smelled dry and tickly.
She flapped once. Puff! She flapped twice. POOF! “I did it!” she clucked, then sneezed a tiny hoo-hoo from her beak.
From the barn hill came another hoo-hoo. Not a hen—an echo! Pippa wiggled and sent one more dusty poof. Next time you see that little beak cloud, can you whisper hoo-hoo back?
