🎨 How to color it

Layer deep teal over the wide paisley arms, burnished gold in the scalloped bands, cranberry in the little flowers, and charcoal gray in the checkerboard patches. Use sharp colored pencils and work from the outer rim inward so the dots, seed shapes, and nested spiral lines stay crisp. Let one curl fade from teal to blue-green, while the neighboring curl stays warm gold, to make the whole circle feel like it is slowly turning.

Under the lamp’s dry buzz, Sable wanted only to mend the broken ring before the ink cooled; her fingers smelled of graphite, and the blank seam at the center made her breathe smaller. Everyone knew the curls began at the edge and hurried inward. But, between two scallops, where no sensible mender looked, she found a pinprick door. “Just once,” she whispered, and pressed it. The line warmed, uncoiled, and sent every paisley rolling outward like a held breath released. Since then, spirals keep their first turn hidden, waiting for one brave fingertip in the dry buzz.
