🎨 How to color it

Use pumpkin orange for the big maple leaf, golden yellow and russet brown for the surrounding leaves, and chestnut brown for the acorns’ caps and nuts. With chunky crayons, color the big leaf first because its wide sections are easy places for little hands to swoop and stop. Try making each point of the center leaf a different fall color, like a secret rainbow hiding in October.

The story behind this coloring page

Pip’s Whisper Leaf Game — Under the old oaks, Pip poked a red leaf with one mitten. Swish. Read the full story →

Under the old oaks, Pip poked a red leaf with one mitten. Swish. He had invented a game: follow every whisper before the wind went hush.

“Where next?” Pip whispered. The leaf tickled his nose, then stretched one point, then another, like tiny fingers showing ways through the crunchy dark. Acorns went plop-plop nearby.

At last the leaf made one big star shape and stopped. Ever since, maple leaves keep their many points so curious children can follow October’s secret paths. Can you spot the leaf that started the game?
