Every morning, Nimble tapped one speckled egg and whispered, “Not yet.” He tucked it in his basket, carried it past tulips that smelled like rain, and waited while the meadow buzzed and wiggled around him.
Until one day, two butterflies tied his hat ribbons into bunny ears and fluttered off, giggle-flap, giggle-flap! Because of that, Nimble dropped the egg into the daisies. Because of THAT, he had to sit very still while a beetle marched over his boot and the egg went tap... tap... crack.
Finally, out popped a tiny wind-up chick that peeped three times and rolled right back into the basket. Nimble laughed so hard his bunny ears bounced. Next time you spot that egg in his hand, can you keep quiet long enough to hear, “Not yet”?
