🎨 How to color it

Color the sky whale deep teal with pale aqua swirl markings, the rider’s robe saffron yellow, the hanging lantern warm gold, and the rainbow bands in dusty boho shades of rose, peach, sage, and lavender. Use broad crayon or marker strokes on the whale’s body and rainbow arcs, then switch to a sharpened pencil for the tiny saddle dots, ropes, and lantern frame. Try making the lantern glow brighter than everything else, with a soft yellow halo that touches the whale’s cheek and the rider’s sleeve.

The story behind this coloring page

At the mossy whale roost, Fia tapped her aunt’s tiny brass lantern and listened for its tin-tin answer. The lantern had no flame, and Fia wanted one laughing spark before the evening bell, so she nudged gentle Obo out over the cloud isles. Wind smelled like wet stone and sweet clover. A sleepy gull dropped a feather into her lap, and Fia tucked it under the lantern hook as payment for the sky-path.

Past three floating gardens, the feather began to hum. “Not too fast, Obo,” Fia whispered. Under the biggest rainbow, the lantern popped with golden giggles—hee, hee, hee! The sound spilled down to every tiny house and tree below, waking windows, paws, and picnic blankets. Fia had wanted one spark, but she carried home a whole skyful of shared laughter. Next time you see the lantern swinging above Obo’s smile, can you hear its tin-tin answer?
