🎨 How to color it

Layer the phoenix in molten gold and ember orange, the surrounding flame bands in crimson and scarlet, the lotus-like petals in deep teal, and the small circles in bright brass. Use sharp colored pencils for the feather barbs and flame tongues, turning the page as you work so each repeated arc stays clean. For extra drama, fade the phoenix’s wings from yellow at the body to red at the outer tips against a cool blue-gray outer ring.

Every dusk, Rixa carried one kiln-spark around the ember coliseum, past roaring arches and hot stone that smelled of iron and smoke. She kept to the safe lower ring, counting her steps under the crowd’s drumbeat, until one day the spark hissed and bent toward the sealed phoenix gate no runner touched.

Because of that, she pressed her shaking thumb to the cold beak carved in the center. Because of that, a tiny latch clicked where nobody had ever thought to look: beneath the lowest feather, under soot as soft as ash. “Just open,” she whispered, and the gate burst into a spiral of red wind.

Rixa ran through, not grandly, not fearlessly, but with her teeth set and the spark cupped close. At the far side, the race torches flared before the horn could sound, and the coliseum answered with wings of fire.
