🎨 How to color it

Layer emerald green on the shamrocks, burnished gold on the duck’s woven wing knots, teal on the spiral body curls, and warm orange on the beak and feet. Use sharp pencils and color each over-under band separately, following the knot paths before filling the larger feather sections. For a subtle twist, shade the trinity knots in the corners from deep forest green at the crossings to pale mint at the tips.

Under the old stone ring, Sorrel kept her favorite hush: the cool smell of moss tucked beneath her wing and the faint tick of beetles in the cracks. She wanted only one sharp clover scent to carry back before moonrise, so she stepped beyond the lichen circle, through wet grass that silvered her feet and stole a little warmth with every stride.

At the far edge, where the wind braided itself through three leaning stones, a small bronze brooch winked from the roots. “Don’t pocket me,” it whispered, bright as a struck pin. “Listen.” Sorrel bent close. Inside the brooch, hundreds of green voices were laughing—clover, rain, root, and hidden spring—joy pressed so tightly it trembled. She could have taken the scent and gone home. Instead she opened her beak and let the sound spill out.

By the time Sorrel returned, her feet were cold, but the stone ring was no longer quiet. Every carved loop seemed to hum with clover laughter, and the moss beneath her wing smelled of the same cool green secret she had gone out to find.
