Every day, Nina padded to the plaza fountain and counted the ice cream cart’s bell rings from behind the daisy pots: one, two, three—ding! She had set herself a challenge: order one scoop all by herself before the summer clouds slid over the sun.
Until one day, the cart rolled in early, wheels rattling over the warm stone. Nina gulped, stepped forward, and squeaked, “One moon-mint, please!” Because of that, the vendor handed her a cone so tall it wobbled like a tower. Because of that, a bunny named Pippa chased a tumbling orange pop right past the cart, and Nina ran too, paws slapping, cone chilly in her paws.
At last Nina planted her feet, rang the bell hard, and called the vendor back before the pop reached the grass. Pippa cheered, the bell sang ding-ding, and Nina took her first brave lick beside the daisy pots—can you spot where the bell-song started?
