🎨 How to color it

Give the turkey warm chestnut feathers, the GRATEFUL banner a soft cream, the lattice pie golden brown, and the potted flowers cranberry red. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny arcs and leaf shapes inside the tail, then switch to smooth marker fills for the window panes and floorboards. For a cozy twist, blend each tail feather from pumpkin orange at the base to deep teal at the rounded tips.

At the back of the harvest parlor, Orla kept a thumb-wide ribbon scrap tucked beneath the sill, smoothing its frayed edge whenever afternoon light crossed the floorboards. It had once tied the first basket she carried alone through the market, past hot crusts, sweet corn silk, and the bright clatter of coins; now it seemed to hold that whole morning in one pale fold. She raised it to the window, curious how a thing so small could make the room feel larger.

The sun slipped behind a cloud, and the scrap changed from cream to honey to the faintest green. Orla followed the color across the glass, across the banner overhead, across every curve of her fanned feathers, until the parlor looked less decorated than illuminated from memory. Then came the surprise: the ribbon was not reflecting the room at all. Outside, each cloud was carrying a different borrowed shine from the village below, and Orla’s little scrap was simply the first to notice. She smoothed its frayed edge again, while curiosity ran past the pie, the corn, the flowers, and up into the window light.
