🎨 How to color it

Color the rainbow bands classic red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet, then make the sunset golden, the ocean turquoise, and the palm fronds bright green. Use sharp colored pencils for the wave lines, footprints, and sand dots, then switch to broader strokes for the big rainbow bands and open sky. Try a warm-to-cool beach twist: peach sand near the sun, fading into lavender shadows around the umbrella and sandcastle.

Beside the hissing surf, Cassian dragged a driftwood stick through damp sand and made seven curvy gates. He had just invented Tide-Hop: jump one gate after each wave sighs away, never before. Foam fizzed around his ankles, gulls clacked overhead, and the salty wind shoved his shirt like a sail. “Wait for the white edge,” he told himself, bouncing on his toes.

The game grew wider as the sun slid lower. A small crab became the judge, tapping one claw by a shell. Cassian hopped red shell, orange pebble, yellow leaf, green glass, blue feather, indigo mussel, violet stone—only when the sea uncovered them. Waiting made every jump feel charged, like the beach was holding its breath.

Then the wet sand flashed with colors that were not his markers. Above the palms, a rainbow bent over the water, and each slow wave carried one bright stripe to Cassian’s gates. His game had not been only on the shore; the sky had been taking turns. If you follow the footprints near the sandcastle, can you tell which patient hop came just as the violet stripe arrived?
