🎨 How to color it

Color the monster’s shaggy fur teal, the striped horns lavender and cream, the closet door honey brown, and the moonlit window pale blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the fur tufts, shirt folds, and slipper fluff, then switch to broader strokes for the bedspread and door panels. Try a quiet nighttime contrast by making the bedroom cool blue-gray while the monster’s face and paws glow with warm peachy highlights.

Every night, when the house clicked cool and sleepy, Kesso sorted the closet shirts by sleeve-swish and listened to the soft hush of blankets across the room. He wanted a game no one had ever played, so he braided loose threads into tiny rings and cut moon shapes from old sock cuffs, naming it Moon-Quiet: toss a ring, catch a shadow, make no sound.

Until one night, his first ring landed on the door handle with a bright ting! Because of that, the paper stars on the window began to blink awake, one by one, spilling silver light over his handmade pieces. Because of that, the shadows changed shape—horn, slipper, pillow, moon—and Kesso had to keep inventing new rules before the light slipped away. “Wait,” he whispered, pressing his paw to the door. “I made this.”

At last he opened the closet just wide enough to see the whole room become his board: slippers as islands, bed as mountain, window as sky. Pride warmed him like a lamp under his fur. The next time the house clicks cool and sleepy, can you spot where Moon-Quiet begins?
