🎨 How to color it

Color the kitten soft orange with darker tangerine stripes, the bunny warm cream, the carrot bright orange, and the meadow flowers yellow and pink. Use sharp colored pencils for the kitten’s stripe curves, the bunny’s long ear outlines, and all the tiny flower petals, then fill the wide hills with smooth side-strokes. Try making the smiling sun golden at the center and peach around the rays, so the whole carrot meadow feels like late afternoon.

Under a tickly blue sky, Zadie pressed one paw to her whiskers and took the dare she had made before breakfast: follow the carrot compass without asking anyone for the way. The carrot lay in the grass like an orange arrow, leafy top pointing past the daisies. Zadie bounded from clump to clump, sniffing warm earth, counting three brave hops between flowers. “North is crunchy!” she whispered, though her heart made a tiny drumbeat in her chest.

The meadow rolled wider, buzzing with bees and piney smells from the far trees. Zadie found another clue: bent grass, two pawprints, and petals sprinkled like confetti. She lifted her chin, ready for the grand final leap—then a bunny popped up on the other side of the carrot, nose twitching fast. “Funny,” said the bunny. “My lettuce compass says south is crunchy.”

Zadie blinked. The carrot was not pointing the way at all. It was the middle of two trails: hers from the flower hill, the bunny’s from the hedge burrow. They sat together, laughing until the sun seemed to grin wider. Next time you spot that carrot between them, can you tell which brave little trail began under the tickly blue sky?
