Under the round rug, Dovie kept a warm button. She wanted the flower circle to hum. Tip-tap, she stepped out across the cool floor, past big dots like sleepy berries.
At each dot, she had to wait. Shhh. The room smelled like crayons and rain. At last, the button fit the middle. “Listen,” whispered Dovie. Hummm went the flower circle, soft and slow. She brought back the sound in her pocket. Next time you see the quiet middle, can you hear the hum?
