🎨 How to color it

Layer the sun’s face in warm marigold, the crescent moon in soft silver-blue, the leafy sprays in sage green, and the tiny stars in pale gold. Use sharp colored pencils and color from the central faces outward, so the narrow rays, curls, and petal-like bands stay crisp. Try a midnight-to-lavender gradient in the background pockets between the outer clouds to make the bright center feel quietly luminous.

Between ourselves, the moon was not always silver; Nerissa made it that way with a brass thimble dented by her mother’s needle. In the celestial workshop, where hot dust smelled of flint and marigold, she wanted one clean seam joining day to night, but sunlight kept fraying her thread. So she cupped the thimble over the sun’s last spark, pressed it through a crescent of cool sky, and stitched until her fingers shone. The seam held. Ever since, moonlight keeps a little gold, because one maker refused to leave the edges apart.
