🎨 How to color it

Color the sprout’s leaves fresh spring green, the mound soft brown, the raindrops sky blue, and the smiling sun golden yellow. The big leaves, round sun, and chunky raindrops are perfect for broad crayon strokes, so fill the large shapes first and do not worry about crossing a line. Try making the raindrops a little darker at the bottom, as if each one is carrying a secret bit of shade.

The story behind this coloring page

Under a warm, round sun, Fenn invented Tip-Tap Trade. Every time rain plinked on one leaf, he tipped it to the next leaf, then the next, without letting a drop splash away. The air smelled like wet dirt and peppery grass. “Tip, tap, hush,” Fenn whispered, because the old seeds sleeping in the mound did not know how thirsty they were.

Soon Fenn’s top leaf held a silver bead as heavy as a marble. He could have kept it and grown taller by morning. Instead, when nobody watched but the smiling sun, Fenn bent low and slid the bead into a crack beside the smallest seed. A tiny sigh came from underground. Then another leaf pushed out on Fenn’s other side, ready for the next secret trade. Ever since, young trees grow leaves in pairs, one to catch and one to give. Next time you see the raindrops around Fenn, can you guess which one he will pass along first?
