🎨 How to color it

Color the husky’s fur icy gray and white, the big pumpkin costume bright orange, the bats charcoal black, and the scattered leaves golden yellow. Use chunky crayons or broad marker strokes for the large pumpkin sections, then switch to a sharper pencil for the husky’s small teeth and the tiny jack-o’-lantern faces. Try making the leaf crown two fall colors—red and yellow—so it looks different from the orange pumpkin around the husky.

Under a sky smelling of dry leaves, Koda padded into the lantern grove with his pumpkin suit bump-bump-bumping around his paws. He wanted to stand very still in the center, just once, while the paper bats clicked softly above him. His tail gave one shy swish.

The small pumpkins grinned with candlelight. A brown leaf landed on Koda’s nose, and he whispered, “I can do one brave step.” He took it. Then the roundest pumpkin beside him blinked.

It was not a pumpkin at all, but a tiny owl peeking through a carved face. “Good evening,” she said, feather-soft. Koda smiled wide, and the grove felt quiet together. When you find his brave smile, can you spot the pumpkin that blinked?
