Every afternoon, Ziggy patrolled the party kennel for fallen snacks, nose ticking like a little wet clock: sniff-sniff, snorf. He wanted first bite of the birthday cupcake, but the candle rule stood in his way—no nibbling until the wish was made.
Until one day, he invented Candle Count. “Guess how many wishes fit in one flame!” he barked. Because of that, every pup shouted guesses over the frosting-sweet air. Because of THAT, the balloons bobbed, the streamers twitched, and the tiny flame leaned as if it were listening. Ziggy, too curious to wait, counted each whisper, howl, and sneeze-wish on his paws.
Finally, when the wax made a warm puddle, he announced, “Seventeen and a half!” The kennel burst into laughing barks, and the birthday pup blew once—foof! Ziggy got the first crumb for “serious math.” Next time you spot his candle, dare yourself to count the wishes before Ziggy’s wet clock goes sniff-sniff, snorf.
