Every day, Junie tapped her stem—tap, tap, tappity—and tried to make a parade horn from fallen leaves. The big sunflower hummed along while the grass scratched her stalk, but Junie’s leaf-tube only went phffft.
Until one day, a ladybug skittered under the curled leaf she needed. Because of that, Junie lifted the leaf very carefully. Because of THAT, she found a smooth hollow reed tucked in the shade, smelling like rain and dirt.
“I can use this!” Junie cried. She wrapped the reed with leaf strips, puffed hard, and BRRRAAAMP—the garden parade began. Next time you spot the ladybug’s leaf, can you imagine Junie’s proud tap, tap, tappity?
