🎨 How to color it

Layer marigold and amber on the sunflower petals, deep umber in the woven seed spiral, teal greens on the veined leaves, and monarch orange with charcoal edges on the butterfly. Use sharp pencils for the tiny lattice in the flower center and the butterfly’s dotted wing panels, turning the page as you follow each curved stained-glass segment. For a secret-window effect, shade the background spirals from pale aqua to midnight blue so the warm sunflower seems to glow from within.

At dusk, Elian left the lantern alcove with an empty brass vial warm against his palm, wanting one ripe sunflower seed to mend the dark pane above the stair. The glass garden clicked in the cooling air. He crossed through blue corridors of leaves and curled panels, where every footstep chimed softly, and paid his small price at the thorn gate: a strip of yellow scarf, snagged and fluttering behind him like a warning.

The tallest sunflower held no loose seeds. Instead, a butterfly rested on the stem, its wings smelling faintly of rain on hot stone. “Not that one,” it whispered, though its mouth did not move. Beneath the flower’s center, Elian saw the hidden thing: hundreds of tiny chambers turning one golden spark into many. He opened his vial, and the spark leapt in—but would not stay. It split, brightening the butterfly, the leaves, the curled glass around them, even the torn scarf at the gate.

Elian returned without a seed and mended nothing by hand. By morning, the stair window shone in pieces, not from repair, but from every pane carrying a share of that dusk-bright joy first gathered in his empty brass vial.
