🎨 How to color it

Layer deep forest green through the leafy scrolls, burnished gold along the braided trunk and roots, midnight blue in the moons and stars, and soft moss on the corner knotwork. Use sharp pencils and color one strand at a time through the over-under knots, keeping the top edge of each ribbon a little lighter so the weaving stays readable. For extra movement, let the background spirals shift from teal near the roots to violet near the upper crescents, like wind climbing the tree.

At the spiral archive, Branna ran her thumb over a dull bronze key that clicked softly against her compass case as she hurried between shelves grown from living roots. She had come to chart the midnight paths before the traveling scholars arrived, and every carved corridor seemed to race ahead of her: loops under loops, ladders of bark, leaf-shaped turns smelling of rain and old ink.

The tree-map kept opening in new directions. A branchway curled into a stair; a stair braided into a bridge; a bridge unrolled into a ring of wind-bright symbols. Branna laughed under her breath and followed the rush, marking nothing, chasing everything, the key warm now in her palm like a tiny captured sun.

Then the key began to hum. Not at a lock, but at each crossing of the branches. When Branna held it near a knot, the bronze teeth cast a thin shadow that showed which strand passed above, which dipped below, and which path was only pretending to end. The archive had never needed unlocking; it needed reading at the speed of wonder.

By dawn, Branna’s map was a whirl of gold lines and blue margins, half route and half music. She left the bronze key hanging where the first root divided, ready to click softly for the next curious traveler at the spiral archive.
