🎨 How to color it

Layer burnt orange and copper through the fox’s outer fur, deep indigo for the crescent moon and stars on its side, moss green for the leaves, and warm ocher on the tiny houses. Use sharp colored pencils and work section by section, because the fox’s body is packed with narrow petals, dots, curls, and roof tiles. For a quiet night-glow twist, blend a pale lavender halo around the curled tail and leave a few star centers bright white.

Before hillside maps showed a fox curled around the moon, Virel inked paths for sleepers who wandered too far into dreams. He worked in a room that smelled of cedar shavings and rain-damp paper, saving his brightest discovery—a round, silver route humming with hidden stars—for himself. Then, just past midnight, a fox with no door in its shadow stepped through the wall and laid one ear against the map.

The fox did not ask to keep it. It only breathed, and every line on the chart shivered into leaves, roofs, flowers, and little constellations, as if joy had found too many rooms for one heart. Virel laughed before he meant to; the sound rang like a spoon on a glass, and the fox tucked its tail around the shining route to carry that laugh from house to house.

Ever since, foxes sleep in a crescent curl when the world has more gladness than it can hold. They are not hiding from the night. They are holding the moon close until it is ready to be shared.
