Every day, Orla watered the conservatory’s August bloom before the glass roof warmed, then hid one drop of honey in a petal fold for her new game: whoever found sweetness could leave sweetness elsewhere. Until one day, no bee took it; the hive hummed like distant strings around the spiral heart. Because of that, Orla placed twelve drops in the empty arches, not for thanks, because no one was there. Because of that, bees carried gold to every dry flower. At dusk, the whole room smelled of rain and honey, and the August bloom kept her secret.
