🎨 How to color it

Try honey brown for the bear, teal for the goggles, soft lavender and mint for the beakers, and warm yellow for the molecule-patterned lab coat. Use fine-tipped pencils for the coat’s gears and molecule shapes, then switch to smooth marker fills on the big round flasks and open face. Add a gentle blue-to-clear shine across the goggle lenses so the microscope feels like it has just revealed something bright.

The story behind this coloring page

The First Curious Bubble — Under the warm lamp, Quill set herself a small challenge: count one bubble before it broke. Read the full story →

Under the warm lamp, Quill set herself a small challenge: count one bubble before it broke. The beaker smelled faintly of peppermint and rainwater, and every glass curve on the bench held a different hush. She leaned close, goggles slipping down her nose, while the microscope ticked softly as it cooled. One bubble rose. Then another. Then six more crowded up as if they had heard a door open.

Quill frowned, not cross, only captured. She wrote a tiny question on the cuff of her coat: What do bubbles want? The answer came when she placed a drop beneath the lens. Inside the shining roundness, specks trembled and bumped together, each touch making a small silver pop. “Oh,” she whispered. “They are carrying my wondering upward.” She stirred once with a glass rod, and the whole beaker answered in pearly dots.

Ever since Quill’s quiet challenge, mixtures in little laboratories have bubbled when curiosity runs away with them. They do not rise to escape; they rise to bring the next question to the surface, one peppermint-bright bubble before it breaks.
