She stirred with the long spoon, slowly at first, then faster as silver sparks zipped past her nose. “I can do one scoop,” Cleo said, and tipped in the blue fizz. Foam climbed up, soft and tickly, while a bat looped through the smoky curls.
Then the spoon bumped something hard where nobody ever looked: beneath the foamy spoon rest. Pop! A tiny pumpkin bell bobbed up, ringing ding-ding-ding, and every bubble answered with a little hop.
