🎨 How to color it

Color the zombie’s skin moss green, his patchy jacket dusty purple, the pumpkin pail bright orange, and the little waving flag candy-corn yellow. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the jacket, pants, fence boards, and stone path, and don’t worry if color hops over the funny stitches. Try making the bats black against a pale lavender sky so the smiling crescent moon feels extra bright.

The story behind this coloring page

Nico’s Tin-Can Moon — Every night, Nico tapped his tiny tin-can flag on the fence posts: clink, clink, clink. Read the full story →

Every night, Nico tapped his tiny tin-can flag on the fence posts: clink, clink, clink. He wanted to hear the low moon-hum inside it, the sound his coat stitches made when they were new.

Until one night, the flag answered with a silver ping. Because of that, Nico followed the ping past whispery trees and cold stone steps. Because of that, his pumpkin pail began to rattle, and the candies inside rolled into a bright little arrow.

“Wait for me,” Nico whispered. At the last fence post, the flag shivered, the pail glowed warm as toast, and the moon-hum filled the lane. If you spot Nico’s raised flag, can you hear it too: clink, clink, clink?
