🎨 How to color it

Try deep violet for the mansion roofs, cold stone gray for the walls, rusty black for the iron fence, and pale gold in the arched windows. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny roof tiles, window tracery, fence points, and twisting tree branches, building color from the outer edges inward. Add a blue-black night gradient around the crescent moon so the gargoyles and rooftop flag feel caught in moving Halloween wind.

Every evening, Vesper climbed the narrow tower steps, polished the bronze bell until it smelled of rain and metal, and rang one bright note for the mansion alone. The gargoyles clicked their claws in approval; the iron gate stayed shut; even the bats crossed the roofline in careful silence. Then, one wind-snapped night, a comet courier skidded between the spires, scattering star-sparks and laughing, “Wrong address, but marvelous echo!”

Because of that, Vesper rang again to answer him, and the sound leapt over the fence like a silver horse. Because of that, branches rattled, chimney smoke twisted into ribbons, and every sleeping lantern in the lane blinked awake. The joy was too large for a locked garden. Vesper seized the bell rope with both hands and pulled until the tower shook, until gargoyles flung open shutters, bats looped wild circles, and the gate sighed wide.

At last the comet courier bowed from the highest roof, trailing cinnamon-colored fire. Vesper stopped guarding the midnight peal and began sending it outward, one fearless note after another, bright with rain and metal.
