🎨 How to color it

Layer bone ivory over the sugar skull, deep crimson on the roses, antique gold on the tall candleholders, and smoky violet through the gothic arch scrolls. Use sharp pencils for the tiny petals, teeth, teardrops, and curling vinework, saving broader marker fills for the skull’s forehead and the candle columns. Try a mischievous glow by shading the candle flames yellow at the center, orange at the edges, and letting faint violet shadows curl into the arch.

Every night, Octavia dusted the reliquary library, sorted rose pollen from old ribbons, and tapped a plain black spoon against the shelf marked Absolutely Ordinary. It answered with a tiny clink that smelled of burnt sugar. Until one night, the spoon said, “Try the third arch.”

Because of that, Octavia lifted a curtain of ivy and found a staircase that giggled under her feet. Because of that, the catalog cards rearranged themselves into rude little mustaches for every portrait in the hall. Curiosity pulled her on, quick as candle smoke, until finally she reached the highest alcove, where the spoon unlocked nothing at all—only stirred the moonlight into her tea. She laughed so hard the roses bowed, then put the spoon back under Absolutely Ordinary, where it winked in black.
