🎨 How to color it

Color the sugar skull in ivory with teal eye rings and coral flower details, make the guitar honey brown with turquoise vines, and fill the big marigolds with golden yellow and orange. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny dots, strings, frets, and scalloped borders, then switch to smooth marker fills for the skull’s broad forehead and the guitar body. Try a midnight-blue-to-purple glow behind the floating music notes so the ivory skull and warm guitar feel like they are playing under festival lights.

The story behind this coloring page

From the first clack of his painted heels on the bright stone lane, Zazil counted twelve drifting notes. He had dared himself to follow every one before the marigold lanterns popped awake. One note bounced like a blue cricket. Another spun past a cart that smelled of cinnamon sugar. Zazil hopped left, twirled right, and laughed as petals brushed his cheekbones with silky, tickly tips.

The twelfth note did not float away. It slipped into the round mouth of a flowered guitar leaning against a tiled wall. Zazil tapped one toe—plink! The strings answered. He tapped both—plink-plonk! The guitar was not waiting for a player at all. It had been tuning itself to him.

“Then keep up!” Zazil called, racing in a zigzag down the lane. Every step rang into a chord, every swirl on his face seemed to hum, and the marigolds opened like little suns. If you follow the notes beside the guitar, can you guess which one heard the first clack of Zazil’s painted heels?
