Every day, Penny rolled down Flower Boulevard before the parade, tapping each curb flag with her bumper: tap, tap, snicker. She wanted to map the silliest route in town, the one that made every daisy bob like it had heard a joke. Warm pollen smelled like honey, and her checkered side panels flashed past the bakery windows.
Until one day, a tiny wind puff wearing a heart-shaped leaf popped from a storm drain. “Wrong way, speedy!” it squeaked, and blew all Penny’s chalk arrows into curly ribbons. Because of that, the brass band marched toward the duck pond. Because of that, the ducks waddled onto the boulevard, quacking in perfect trumpet rhythm while Penny skidded through petals and sunshine.
Finally, Penny stopped chasing her ruined map and followed the giggle gust instead. It knew every breezy dip, every flower-scented shortcut, every place her wheels hummed happiest.
