🎨 How to color it

Layer ivory and soft bone on the skull, deep marigold in the flower eyes and cheek blossoms, and peacock teal through the butterfly-wing scrolls. Use sharp pencils for the tiny dots around the eyes and the narrow vine channels, turning the page as needed to keep each curl clean. Try a gentle fade from teal to violet along the outer wings so the bold black skull outline feels like a quiet frame.

Before the herbarium lamps dimmed, Tavio set three pressed petals beside his cup of anise tea and invented a game: carry each one beyond his velvet niche, leave it where a weary hand would find it, and return before the moths finished circling the glass roof. The hall smelled of dry mint and old paper. He tucked a yellow petal beneath a broom, a blue one inside the ledger of bent flower stems, and the last against the cold door where the night porter rested his knuckles.

On the way back, dust silvered his painted vines, and one wing-scroll snagged on a fern label. He freed it slowly, losing a tiny flake of gold no one would notice. Behind him, a broom paused, a ledger closed softly, and the door latch lifted with a warmer click. Tavio found his niche without applause, only the tea gone cool and the moths still turning, and he set his empty hands beside the cup as if they were three pressed petals.
