🎨 How to color it

Layer the vampire’s cape in deep burgundy, the pointed-arch windows in smoky violet, the stone columns in cool gray, and the climbing roses in dark crimson with olive leaves. Use sharp pencils for the balcony scrollwork, rose petals, and narrow window tracery, then blend larger areas of cape and stone with slower, even strokes. Try a moonlit gradient behind the tall windows so the burgundy cape and red roses feel warm against a cold Gothic glow.

Between you and me, Valerian did not inherit his famous sweeping cape; he stitched it from funeral silk, pricked each hem with his own needle, and saved one plain silver clasp from his mother’s sewing box. The night he fastened it on the balcony, roses breathed peppery sweetness through the iron curls, and the windows gave back only black. Proud, trembling, he turned the clasp until it caught the moon and poured pale fire through every pointed pane. Since then, Gothic windows bloom with silver at midnight because one vampire made the night fit by hand.
