🎨 How to color it

Give the rooster warm russet feathers, the witch hat deep violet with a gold star, the scarf pumpkin orange, and the twisted tree smoky gray. Use sharp colored pencils for the feather tips, hat band, scarf squares, and bark lines so the gothic details stay crisp. Try a midnight-blue-to-lavender glow around the crescent moon, leaving the stars bright white for a spooky sparkle.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the crooked moon, Bram carried a dull reed and a pocketknife past the graveyard fence. He wanted to make a whistle for the midnight watch, one that could call, “All clear!” without waking the owls. His coop was warm behind him, smelling of straw, but the best hollow reeds grew near the thorn tree, where the wind made the leaves click like tiny bones.

A thorn scratched his scarf, and his claws sank into cold mud. Then—rattle-tap! The sound came from a jack-o’-lantern grinning beside the path. Bram peeked inside where nobody ever looked and found three dry pumpkin seeds bouncing in the breeze. “That’s the missing sound,” he whispered. He tucked one seed into his carved reed, plugged it with a curl of pumpkin vine, and blew. Hoo-ree! The note shivered silver under the stars.

Back at the fence, Bram held his handmade moon-whistle high, proud of every notch and splinter. Next time you see his lifted claw, see if you can spot the pumpkin that helped the crooked moon sing.
