🎨 How to color it

Color the sleeping cat soft silver-gray, the crescent moon buttery yellow, the puffy clouds pale lavender, and the Luna letters deep midnight blue. Use sharp colored pencils for the tiny stars tucked inside the letters, then switch to smoother strokes for the wide moon and cloud curves. Try a fading halo around the crescent, with the stars nearest the cat glowing warm gold and the lower star trail cooling into icy blue.

Under the cloud nursery’s woolly roof, Luna pressed one paw to her own name stitched on the floor and made a secret dare: she would bring back a real star-speck before the moon yawned twice. The nursery smelled like rain cotton and cold milk. Beyond the crescent gate, the sky went wide and quiet, except for the tiny tick-tick of faraway stars. Luna swallowed. “Just one speck,” she whispered, and stepped off her favorite cloud.

The path was not really a path, only dots of light with gaps between them. Luna paid her price at the third gap: one whisker-tip of courage, left trembling in the dark. Then she saw the star-speck shivering in a curl of wind, too frightened to shine. Instead of scooping it up, Luna tucked it under her chin and purred the smallest purr she knew, warm as a mitten.

When she padded back, she carried no shiny prize. The star-speck had woken and followed, scattering a whole trail behind her. If you ever find Luna asleep by the crescent gate, keep the secret: the tiniest stars near her name are still listening for that mitten-warm purr.
