Every day, Bixby zipped the fern trail before breakfast, kicking up dust and making beetles drop their berry crumbs. Then he set himself a ridiculous challenge: cross the whole forest path as slowly as possible without stopping once. He pinched a tiny flag from his snack basket, sniffed the cool leaf-smell, and whispered, “Go… but barely.”
Until one day, a tortoise named Tuck stepped onto the path at exactly Bixby’s new speed. Because of that, Bixby had to hop beside him, one careful bounce at a time. Because of that, squirrels, finches, and even a grumpy toad began chanting so loudly the berries trembled on their stems. Bixby’s chest felt too full for one rabbit. Finally, he waved the flag for Tuck instead, sharing the slowest, silliest victory in the woods. Next time you spot the little GO flag, see if you can hear Bixby whisper, “Go… but barely.”
