🎨 How to color it

Layer the cathedral in smoky charcoal, antique gold, and deep plum, with the moon in pale butter yellow, the bats in blue-black, and the stars in icy silver. Use sharp pencils for the fan windows, chevrons, and narrow stepped columns, working from the outer borders inward so the tiny Deco lines stay crisp. Try a cool lavender-to-navy gradient behind the towers, letting the gold window fans glow like secret signals.

The first time Ivara challenged herself to count every moon-echo in the sky cathedral, she brought only a silver pencil and a rule of her own: no echo could be counted twice. The towers smelled of rain-cooled stone and lamp oil, and each chevron window gave back a different hush. One, two, three—then the bats arrived, not as a cloud, but as little black commas changing the sentence of the night.

They slipped through her unfinished doorway and struck the air with paper-dry wings. Ivara leaned close, curious enough to forget the cold in her fingers. The echoes did not scatter; they gathered at the door’s high arch and tugged its top into two upward points, one for leaving, one for returning. “So that’s your trick,” she whispered. By dawn, every bat knew the shape home made in the dark, and ever since, bat doors point where the moon-echoes meet.
