🎨 How to color it

Layer the cat in smoky charcoal and deep plum, color the spiral moon butter yellow, make the bats black-violet, and fill the leaves with olive and copper. Use sharp colored pencils for the cat’s narrow face panes, tail bands, tiny stars, and berry circles so each stained-glass section stays crisp. Try a slow gradient in the ribboned sky, moving from midnight blue at the corners to lavender around the moon’s spiral.

In the old greenhouse after the visitors left, Talyn placed one paw on the cool stone rim and invented a game: he would not blink until the moon’s spiral seemed to turn. The panes smelled faintly of rain and iron vines. Above him, leaf shadows rested in colored pieces, and the night held its breath.

The game grew without hurrying. A cloud slid one white shoulder across the roof. Berry stems ticked softly against the glass. Talyn’s whiskers felt the small changes before his eyes did: a star brightening, a leaf darkening, the moon pouring a paler ribbon over his paws.

Then three bats passed behind the colored panes, not flying across the sky but hopping from one dark shape to the next, as if the greenhouse itself were a board and every shadow a square. Talyn understood at last: he had not been waiting for the moon to move. The night had been waiting for him to notice its turn.

He blinked, and the spiral seemed to smile. The bats settled into their places, the leaves shone copper in the moonwash, and Talyn began the game again with one paw on the cool stone rim.
