Every morning, Gus checked the boom bolts, wiped the hose collar, and tried to make the first pour land as neat as frosting on a square cake. He wanted a tidy foundation before lunch, with no splats on the form boards and no muddy bootprints in the rebar grid. The pump hummed, the gravel smelled dusty and warm, and the hose gave one polite glug.
Until one day, a groundhog popped from the trench and hiccuped, “Glorp!” The hose answered with a wobble. Because of that, Gus spotted little air bubbles skipping through the concrete like gray popcorn. Because of THAT, he followed the bubbles to a bent clamp, while the groundhog kept hiccuping at the exact wrong moments.
Finally, Gus tightened the clamp, set a spare bucket beside the groundhog, and let it hiccup into that instead. The concrete slid smooth, the crew laughed, and the square cake was saved before lunch. If you can find the hose’s splashy landing spot, you’ve found where one polite glug turned into trouble.
