🎨 How to color it

Color the scissor lift platform safety yellow, the crossed lift arms steel gray, the tool cart bright red, and the two traffic cones orange with white stripes. The big tires, open panels, and thick scissor bars are great for chunky crayons or markers, and it is okay if little hands color past a few lines. Try making every round bolt a different color, like tiny game buttons hidden along the lift arms.

Under the warm repair-bay lights, Pip rolled between the tool cart and the orange cones, humming, “Hop, clank, hop!” He had just invented Bolt-Hop: count one shiny bolt on each crossed arm before rising to the next level. The rubber tires squeaked on the smooth floor, and the lift arms opened with a cheerful shhhk-shhhk-shhhk.

Higher went Pip, past the low shelf, past the cord loop, almost to the top rail. Then a funny thing happened. The shelves answered his game. A paint can made one soft ping, a wrench gave two tiny ticks, and the power box blinked three square lights. Pip laughed so hard his platform wiggled. He was not playing alone; the whole bay knew the beat. “My turn again!” he called. Next time you see his crossed arms, can you find the bolts that started the hop, clank, hop?
