Every day after lunch, Tessa counted the round flowers by the path: one, two, three, while the garden smelled like warm leaves and dirt. She always stopped at the tiny house on the hill and turned back.
Until one day, a striped bee hovered in front of her nose and hummed a tune that sounded like, “Come see.” Because of that, Tessa followed it past the tallest tulip. Because of that, she noticed a butterfly resting like a folded secret on a curly leaf. “Where does the path go?” she whispered.
The bee circled the little house, then dipped toward more flowers Tessa had never counted. Finally, Tessa smiled and began again: one, two, three. Next time you see the path between the blossoms, can you guess which hum she followed?
