Under the tall dill stalks, Raya tied the last ribbon on her pocket map and bounced on her toes. She had snipped it from rose petals, pressed it flat with smooth pebbles, and painted quick paths with berry juice. “Ready, set, rustle!” she called, and dashed between the mint leaves, her new wings snapping like tiny sails.
The map did not lead to the finish pebble. It tugged her left, then right, past peppery marigolds and buzzing blue flies, until every path she had painted lined up with real stems below. Then the twist popped open: the dots were not directions at all. They were places where sleepy seeds wanted holes.
Raya whooped and poked each dot with her handmade map’s twig handle. By sunset, sprouts stood in a proud little parade around her ankles. If you peek at the hearts on her wings, can you spot the pocket map’s secret paths?
