🎨 How to color it

Color the heart cherry red, the firefighter helmet sunny yellow, the safety badge bright gold, and the hydrant fire-engine red. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the heart, helmet, hose, and buildings because the shapes are big and easy to fill. Try making the badge star sparkle with orange in the center and yellow around the points.

The story behind this coloring page

Nico’s Hydrant Secret — Under the block bell, Nico polished his safety badge until it shone like toast with butter. Read the full story →

Under the block bell, Nico polished his safety badge until it shone like toast with butter. The bell needed one cheerful splash before the noon parade, so Nico tugged his hose from the cozy firehouse door and stepped onto Maplebrick Street. Clank, clank! The sidewalk smelled warm and dusty.

At the corner hydrant, the cap would not turn. Nico gave one big twist, and his glove button popped off—plink! He traded it to a crow who tapped, “Under the little round lid.” Inside the hydrant was not water first, but a rolled ribbon covered in tiny heart stickers. Then whoosh! Water sprang up, the bell sang, and everyone came running to share the stickers. Can you spot the hydrant that kept Nico’s joy so big and secret?
