🎨 How to color it

Color the engine bright cherry red, the schoolhouse sunny yellow, the apples crisp green, and the backpacks blueberry blue and grape purple. Use chunky crayons or broad markers for the large train cars, then switch to a sharper crayon tip for the clock, window panes, and backpack labels. Try making the smiling smoke cloud pale gray with a soft blue edge so it feels a little magical above the chimney.

Beside the morning shed, Bren polished the School Express until the wheels smelled like warm metal. He wanted to return a tiny whistle he had found in an old lunchbox, because it hummed whenever the school clock ticked. “Who do you belong to?” Bren whispered. The whistle answered, peep-peep, and pointed its sound down the track.

Bren rolled away from the cozy shed with apples bumping, books sliding, and backpacks thump-thumping behind him. At the school gate, the whistle gave one bright tweet. A hidden side rail clicked open under the grass, and a box of forgotten name tags waited there, dusty and silver. Bren traded his best red pencil to write every name clearly.

When he came back, the train carried something better than the whistle: no backpack would be lonely again. Next time you spot the little conductor waving, can you guess which secret he just uncovered?
