Every rainy morning, Finch tied his paper ribbon around the tallest grass blade and counted the dark wet stripes. He wanted to make a rain gauge all by himself, even though the drops went plink-plink and smeared his careful blue lines. One day, the ribbon slipped free and floated into the widest puddle.
Because of that, Finch stepped in with one boot and felt the cold water wobble. Because of that, the ribbon curved like a little bridge, carrying a ladybug across without a splash. “I made a river road!” Finch whispered.
