🎨 How to color it

Color the dragon in jade green with gold belly plates, the phoenix in crimson and amber, and the curling clouds in pale lavender. Use sharp colored pencils for the dragon scales and phoenix feathers, working from the outer edges inward so the tiny repeating shapes stay crisp. Try a warm yellow glow around the round sun that fades into a cool blue sky behind the wind ribbons.

Above the highest weather, Calder chased a straight sunbeam. He wanted one clean stripe of warmth to line his cloud nest before night cooled the sky. But every beam he touched bent away, sliding through his claws like smooth glass, and the wind kept tugging his whiskers sideways with a soft shhh.

Then a bird of fire rose from the lower gold, trailing feathers like lantern flames. Calder froze. The phoenix carried a cracked note of song in her beak, thin as ice. “Help me turn it,” she whispered, and the sound trembled. Calder curled his long body around the sunbeam while she spread both wings. Together they bent the stiff light gently, not breaking it, until her song rounded into a warm hum.

The hum flowed out through the clouds, and every wind ribbon curved to carry it safely from sky to sky. Calder tucked one shining curve into his nest and knew it fit better than any straight stripe could. Ever since, sky winds curve when they pass the sun, and if you find the dragon and phoenix facing each other, you may spot the first warm bend Calder brought home.
