🎨 How to color it

Color the biggest fireworks gold, coral, and sky blue, then give the ocean teal waves, the lifeguard tower warm tan legs, and the beach umbrellas cherry red or lemon yellow. Use sharp colored pencils for the many narrow firework streaks and tiny stars, then switch to a broader marker or crayon for the open sand and sea. Try fading the sky from deep navy at the top to violet near the horizon so the handmade bursts look extra bright.

The story behind this coloring page

All afternoon, Elias pressed shiny paper into tiny stars at the edge of the city beach. He wanted to make enough for every lifeguard, sweeper, and umbrella renter before the evening show began. The paper clicked under his fingernails, and the air smelled of salt, sunscreen, and warm boardwalk pretzels.

As dusk softened the lifeguard tower, Elias set his last star on a rail. A woman carrying a black launch box stopped and picked it up. “Did you fold these?” she asked. Her coat smelled faintly smoky, like blown-out candles. Elias nodded, suddenly proud of the crooked points he had pinched with his own hands.

When the first fireworks opened, they were not circles or fountains. They were stars—lopsided, bright, and friendly—spreading above the water just like his paper ones. People on towels clapped; waves hissed silver at the shore. If you study the sky after the boom, you may find one spark with a crooked little point, folded from an afternoon at the edge of the city beach.
