🎨 How to color it

Use golden yellow for the smiling sun, indigo and silver for the crescent moon, coral and teal for the patterned clouds, and a full spectrum across the rainbow arches. Because the page is packed with triangles, diamonds, dots, and narrow bands, use sharp colored pencils and work one arch at a time from the outer borders inward. For a playful twist, make the tiny houses plain warm neutrals so the hidden generosity of the sky colors feels even brighter.

At the edge of the mosaic town, Fenn set himself a ridiculous private rule: by dawn, he would hide seven spare colors where nobody would think to thank him. He tucked plum into a chimney shadow, mint along a roof tile, and a thin orange laugh beneath a bridge stone. The wet mortar smelled of rain and chalk, and his pencil made a tiny scritch-scritch as he worked between sleeping houses.

The arch above town slowly filled with orderly bands, stars, and little patterned clouds. Fenn was just polishing a blue no larger than a postage stamp when a warm beam slid over his wrist. In the center of the high circle, the sun opened one eye. “That teal was mine,” she said, sounding amused rather than offended.

Fenn looked closer. Gold had been left inside moon swirls. Rose glowed in star points he had not touched. Even the clouds wore neat stripes, as if someone had been sneaking brightness into the night before he arrived. He grinned, added his final violet to a quiet doorstep, and let the sun keep pretending she had not seen. By breakfast, the town woke under an arch of unclaimed colors.
