🎨 How to color it

Color the hibiscus petals hibiscus red, the Petronas Towers cool silver, the Malaysia map rainforest green, and the batik corners deep teal and gold. Use sharp colored pencils for the tower ribs and curling ornament lines, then switch to smoother strokes for the broad flower petals and open map shapes. Try a sunset peach glow behind the towers so the red flower feels warm against the green country outline.

Under the silver morning towers, Hani pressed a blank page flat in her travel book and searched for the perfect place to stamp her family’s tiny batik block. The garden smelled of rain-washed leaves and sweet hibiscus, and the city hummed softly above her like a held note. She traced swirls on the wooden stamp with her thumb, waiting until the page seemed to know where it wanted the mark.

A breeze lifted the largest hibiscus petal. Beneath it, where nobody thought to look, five yellow pollen grains had fallen into the shape of a star. Hani held her breath. The towers’ points, the flower’s center, and the far outline of the country all seemed to lean toward that small hidden star, as if they had been keeping its place all along. “There you are,” she whispered.

She stamped her batik pattern around the star, not over it, and the page felt less like a souvenir than a doorway home. Next time you notice the big hibiscus first, see if your eyes can find the quiet star under the petal, where the morning towers are still holding their note.
