Every day, Quill tucked loose seagrass into boring straight rows behind the nursery rocks, snip, slip, pat, while the water smelled green and salty. He wanted to build something with his own flippers before the moonfish came to judge the neatest beds. Then one day, a tiny decorator crab popped out wearing a hat of sponge bits and said, “Straight rows? Tragic.”
Because of that, Quill chased the crab through tickly blades, and his tidy rows bent into loops. Because of THAT, a nosy fish sneezed bubbles, the current twirled, and the whole patch curled into a lopsided heart. Quill nearly groaned—until he pressed the last blade down and saw it hold. The moonfish flashed silver approval, and even the crab saluted with a spongey claw. Next time you spot the bubbles above the grass, check whether Quill’s sneaky heart is still saying snip, slip, pat.
