🎨 How to color it

Try emerald green for the turtle’s faceted shell, sea-glass teal for the flippers, coral pink for the branching reef, and sunny yellow for the small fish. Use sharp colored pencils for the many triangles on the shell and flippers, filling each shape from the outside edge toward the center. For extra sparkle, alternate two greens across the shell triangles and let the round bubbles fade from pale blue to white.

The story behind this coloring page

Under the soft tick-tick of bellgrass, Mira tucked three pebble-bells beneath the front edge of her shell. She wanted to hear them ring in the high coral hall, where every sound came back shining. The bells had belonged to her baby days; she had chewed them smooth while storms grumbled overhead. When the current tugged cold against her cheeks, she slipped out anyway, past sleeping urchins and sand that puffed like flour.

The hall was farther than it looked. A crab asked to borrow one bell to hush his rattling cart, and Mira gave it up. A wrasse needed one to guide her minnows through cloudy water, so Mira gave that one too. By the time she reached the coral hall, only one pebble-bell rested under her shell, small as a seed. “Ring with me,” she whispered.

Mira tapped it once. Ting. From the crab’s cart came ting-a-ling; from the minnows, ting-ting-ting; from caves and coral forks, all the borrowed bells answered. The joy grew too big for one shell, so Mira carried the echo home, and next time you spot the turtle among the bubbles, see if you can find where the soft tick-tick begins.
